How do I setup and stream Live TV (local channels) via Orb? |
||||
**** This article is applicable only for 2.0x series of Orb ****
(To know your Orb version, click Orb tray icon - About) To stream Live TV via Orb, you need the following:
- an Orb supported tuner installed on your Orb PC with cable/antenna feed connected to it.
- If your TV feed is via a set-top box, then additional you would need an USB Infra–Red (IR)* Blaster to change channels via Orb. On your Orb PC:
Without Set-top box:
Click Orb tray > Configuration > Set up TV signal and provider > select I don’t have a set-top box > click Next > Enter your ZIP > click Get List > Select your TV Service Provider from the list generated, then click Next.
With Set-top box:
Click Orb tray > Configuration > Set up TV signal and provider > select Coaxial (channel 2, 3, or 4) or Composite video or S-video as applicable per your TV setup then click Next.
Note: if the tuning of your set-top box is set to another channel than 2, 3 or 4, select Channel 2, Click Next and then you can change the TuningChannel in your Windows registry (Usual Disclaimer: Use the Registry Editor at your own risk) at : HKEY | LOCAL MACHINE | Software | OrbNetworks | Orb | OrbTVBuffer | TuningChannel and change the existing value for the TuningChannel REG_DWORD to the correct channel number.
If you have Vista Home Premium or Vista Ultimate
Make sure that you have configured your IR Blaster and it works fine on your Media Center application and then select "I watch Live TV through my Media Center Application" when prompted during Orb TV Setup.
All other Windows OS platforms
For Orb to detect your IR code, it is important that you position your set-top box remote control not more than 1 inch away from the IR blaster.
click Detect and then press and hold button "0" as instructed. If Orb cannot detect your remote, give it another try by selecting Try again.
If Orb cannot detect your remote at all, click Back twice, to return to the screen in the previous step above, then select Learn. The IR setup will walk you through repeated steps to learn your remote control keys, one by one.
After Orb successfully detects or learns your remote IR codes, indicate whether on your remote control you must press the "Enter" or "OK" key after selecting a channel number then click Next
Enter your ZIP > click Get List > Select your TV Service Provider from the list generated, then click Next.
If you have a digital tuner then you should see a prompt "Orb has detected a digital TV tuner card. Do you want to configure it now?" > Select an appropriate option and follow the wizard.
Orb will start downloading your program guide. Depending on the number of channels, it may take up to 2 hours to complete the initial retrieval of your TV guide.
Note: After the initial setup, Orb will perform daily TV listings updates and will download your TV programs for the 7 following days. Click OK! Make sure that your tuner is not in use by another application (i.e. Media Center or Tuner's native application) and then point your PC browser to http://mycast.orb.com and start streaming your Live TV.
*At this time, the Orb IR blaster program (for changing local TV channels on a set-top box) does not work on Vista Home Basic and Business editions.
