Is it safe to use Orb? |
||||
Absolutely. Orb is safe and secure, allowing you to confidently access your home computer and stream media to any Internet-enabled device. Orb uses multiple layers of security, so you can be assured that your home network is as secure as ever. Your Mycast account is encrypted via SSL2-128bit and your Orb media is safe and secure until you reveal your Orb account to others.
Access to your home computer is controlled by a unique username and password through a secure connection. All Orb authentication servers are hosted in a highly secure data center.
All your contents reside on your Orb-PC* and your password is securely sent using advanced encryption. The advanced encryption guarantees you and only you can safely access your content remotely. Orb uses an encryption algorithm for your password which does not allow anyone - not even us, here at Orb - to decrypt it in order to access your account. If you ever lost it, we cannot retrieve it for you: Our system will send you a new password using which you can login into your account and reset the password to the one of your choice.
Orb does not compromise your firewall at home. In fact, Orb does not introduce any opportunity for "strangers" to get into your files or network. Orb uses the default streaming ports (TCP 80 and TCP 554) and you do not have to open them on your router as these are either the default media ports or they are ports your router should open when requested by your Orb PC (UDP 13398 to 13401). Another unique feature of Orb is its ability to detect IP sniffing and prevent it by cutting all feeds in case an intrusion is detected.
Orb would like to assure you that we have adopted the best in terms of what technology can offer to make it safe and secure to use. These are not mere statements, but can be substantiated by the fact that none of our subscribers (9 Million as on Jan 2009) have ever reported about any security or integrity problems with their data over the past 5 years.
As a matter of fact, over these past 5 years, Web Security Agencies from all over the World did report only two potential exploits in Orb, both of which were fixed in a timely fashion (by releasing a new version of the software) and subsequently these fix were acknowledged by those who reported about these potential exploits. We believe that these exploits were never taken advantage of, thanks to the early report of these Agencies, and we never got any report of them having occurred again.
* None of your Content / Media is ever uploaded to Orb servers. They remain on your PC. The only exception to this rule is that when you publicly share some content on your Orb Public page (or Blog) and this content happens to become popular, then for optimal streaming experience it’s pushed in a cache on Orb Servers.
