Streaming media on your iPhone (or iPod Touch)

it's all in the green OrbLive** icon on the Home screen
[Requires iPhone software 2.x]

Prerequisite

For OrbLive to work on your iPhone (or iPod Touch), you need to have Orb (2.01.0013 or later) installed on your PC. Please click on the below links to get more information:

Play ALL your media files on your iPhone

Now that you have installed OrbLive, just tap OrbLive icon on the Home screen of your iPhone (or iPod Touch)

What next? Enter Orb Login and password you created during Orb PC installation and tap Connect.

Can't log in because you forgot your password?

Visit http://mycast.orb.com and click the "forgot your password" link in the login box: you will be prompted to provide your Orb Login. Orb will then send you a temporary password to the email address you gave when you first created your Orb account. So check your spam/junk filter to whitelist Orb Networks and Orb Support.

Also check the Orb startup & Login Problems section of our Support Knowledge Base where you would find Knowledge Base articles for resolving login / password issues.

Streaming Audio (or Video or Photo)

There are three basic ways to stream your Audio (or Video or Photo):

Shuffle

Tap Shuffle to stream all audio (or video or photo ) files randomly from your audio (or video or photo) folder(s) added to Orb tray.

Did you know how to add media to Orb tray?

On your Orb PC (where Orb is installed), Click Orb tray icon (small green icon on your system tray) >> Configuration >> Media >> Click Add under Music (or Video or Photo) folders, navigate and select the media folder you wish to add to Orb tray, see the User Guide Setting up your Orb system

You can add media folders from a local drive, USB external drive, or network drive, see the KB article How do I add media folders stored on other drives, external USB drives or network (LAN) drives?

If you do not see all files added to Orb tray, check and make sure that their file extension is listed in Mycast Web UI > Open Application Control Panel > [Media] > Media Extensions. Also see the KB article How come I am missing files when I browse my media folders on my Orb account?

Playlist

Playlists are a great way to access your media. They can be used to create photo albums, audio or video playlists. You should be able to stream two types of Playlists:

1.    Playlists created via Mycast Web UI

Just log on to Mycast Web UI (http://mycast.orb.com) using your Orb username and password from your Orb PC or any other PC then Click Open Application >> Audio (or Video or Photo)

Drag Files: Select one or multiple files and drag them to the playlist box.

Did you know?
  • To remove an item, hover it and click on the red cross that will appear.
  • To clear a playlist, click New playlist link in the playlist box header.
  • You can rename the playlist by clicking on its title.
  • To modify an existing playlist, click Open existing playlist link in the playlist box header and make your selection.
Save the playlist: Click on the save button. The newly created playlist will then appear in the navigation tree under playlists.

Confirmation Message: Once the playlist is saved, a confirmation message will appear at the bottom right of your screen.

2.   Playlists located on your Orb PC (where Orb is installed) created using third party applications / players like Windows Media Player, Winamp, etc.

To stream Playlists on your iPhone (or iPod Touch), just tap audio (or video or photo) >> Playlists >> My Playlists >> tap on an item to stream.

Folders

On your iPhone (or iPod Touch), just tap Folders and navigate to the folder, tap on a file to stream contents of audio (or video or photo) files from that audio (or video or photo) folder.

Set and stream only your favorite files

To stream your favorite files, you must first define them as favorites at Mycast Web UI (http://mycast.orb.com). It's simple and easy.

Just log on to Mycast Web UI (http://mycast.orb.com) using your Orb username and password from your Orb PC or any other PC then Click Open Application >> Audio (or Video or Photo), move your cursor on any file, on the Content panel or when in the Library: a pop-up menu will show-up. You can set this file as favorite by giving it a rating using our star system... you can add your favorite keywords in the "Tags" section, and even change the Description! Tags are fully searchable. You can also define favorite via Properties panel. You can then view your favorite media by selecting "Favorites" under Playlists in the Navigational panel.

To stream your favorite files on your iPhone (or iPod Touch), just tap on Audio (or Video or Photo) >> Playlists >> Favorites and start streaming your media.

Setup and stream local TV channels

To stream local TV channels, you need a MPEG-2 tuner (tuner with built-in hardware MPEG-2 encoder) installed your Orb PC.

To setup Live TV on your Orb PC, Click Orb tray icon >> Configuration >> TV >> Set up TV signal and provider and then the TV setup wizard which will guide you through the configuration of your TV tuner so you can stream your local TV channels anywhere. For detailed instructions, see Setup Live TV.

If your TV tuner includes a set-top box (STB) you will need an Infrared Transmitter / Receiver (a.k.a. IR blaster) in order to change channels via Orb.

If you have changed ZIP or TV Provider, just click Orb tray icon >> Configuration >> TV >> Set up TV signal and provider >> when prompted, select I don't have a set-top box or select Channel 2, 3 or 4 (or Composite, or S-Video) as applicable per your TV setup and Enter your ZIP and Select your Provider from the list.

Also check the Live TV & Webcams section for Knowledge Base articles related to Live TV.

Now, to stream Live TV channels on your iPhone (or iPod Touch), just tap on Video >> TV >> Live TV >> tap on a local TV Channel to stream.

Set and stream only favorite channels

To stream your favorite channels, you must first define them as favorite at Mycast Web UI (http://mycast.orb.com).

Log on to Mycast Web UI, click Open Application >> TV/Webcams >> Program Guide:

Move your cursor to any channel name, on the Mini Guide or when in the Classic Guide view: a pop-up menu will show-up. You can set this channel as favorite by giving it a ranking using our star system... you can add your favorite keywords in the "Tags" section, and even change the Description! Tags are fully searchable.

You can then view your favorite channels by selecting "Favorite Channels" under Program Guide.

Now, to stream your favorite channels on your iPhone (or iPod Touch), just tap on Video >> TV >> Favorite Channels and start streaming your favorite channels.

Streaming your webcam

There is no configuration for webcams in Orb: see the KB article How do I setup my webcam so I can remotely access it via Orb / OrbLive? for more detail on what type of webcams are supported.

Just tap Videos >> Webcams and start streaming your webcam. Also make sure that "Enable Webcams" checkbox is checked at Orb tray >> Configuration >> TV tab, see the User Guide Setting up your Orb system

Note: make sure that your webcam is not in use by another application when you are trying to stream it via OrbLive.

Streaming Internet Radio or TV

To stream Internet radio or TV, you must first define them as favorites like you did for audio / video / photos at Mycast Web UI. After you define a favorite channel, tap Audio >> Internet Radios or Video >> Online Videos >> Internet Channel and tap the channel to stream.

Streaming Custom channels

Custom channels are online channels you can add yourself. To add a custom channel, just log on to Mycast Web UI from your Orb PC or any other PC then click Open Application >> Audio (or TV/Webcams) >> Internet Radio (or Internet TV) >> click Add Custom, type the name and path of your custom channel and then click Submit. Your custom channels will be listed under Favorite Channels.

Note: Before adding your custom channel, make sure that you are able to play your custom channel via Windows Media Player or any other player.
** OrbLive / OrbLive Free had to be revised because of a change in the AT&T data network policy in June 2009, on 2G and 3G networks, you must record and playback TV. Live TV can still be played "Live" on Wi-Fi networks.
